The city of Inverness is a little gem in the Highlands and I always find a good reason to go back. It is easily explored in one day but on my last visit I was there only for the night, since I was bound north to Orkney. From the moment I knew my final destination, I decided it would be a good idea to spend a few hours at one of the most vibrant spots in the Highlands in Scotland. And the magnificent Kingsmills Hotel was the place to be.
Perfectly located near a golf course just 1 mile away from the city centre, the Kingsmills Hotel was chosen the Best Hotel in the Highlands and Islands in 2012. After having stayed there I can see clearly why.

This is a place where history, tradition, comfort and luxury come together. The Kingsmills Hotel is a luxury four-star resort with Spa and Leisure Facilities set within 4 acres of manicured grounds and views over the neighbouring golf course. The hotel takes its name from a meal mill which stood in its grounds until the 1950s and has got two buildings: the elegant historic mansion house, built in 1786 for William Inglis, and visited one year later by the famous bard Robert Burns (you can even see the letter he sent the owner, as it is framed and hanging from one of the walls); and the KingsClub, a luxury spa perfect to relax and enjoy the slow life… Shame I didn’t have time to try their treatments. Which means… I will have to go back.
From the very moment I arrived, everybody was so polite, nice and charming that I felt at home. And a few surprises awaited in my room, which was in the classy and hip Kingsclub and Spa, the last addition to the hotel. The room was stunning and I was greeted by a very nice message from the managers of the Kingsmills and some yummy and very Scottish treats: tablet, shortbread and a cupcake (together with a prosecco bottle). The bed was as comfy as you can get and there was even an alarm clock where I could play my own ipod.

Apart from its history and great facilities, the Kingsmills Hotel is well-known for its superb local and seasonal cuisine. The best hotel in Inverness gives you a choice of two restaurants: Inglis and The Conservatory. I had one of the tastiest dinners I have had in Scotland at the Conservatory: yummy and fresh salmon carpaccio marinated with lemon, a really awesome burger and the best chocolate cake ever. I look at the pictures and my mouth waters.

Talking about food at the Kingsmills Hotel, breakfast is awesome. The selection of food is endless: from fruit to warm dishes like porridge, eggs or sausage; different kinds of cereal, toast and quite a choice of juices. Just the perfect way to start any day in the Highlands. I do not know when will I go back to Inverness but, whenever I do, I already know where I will stay.
